AS/A2 Chemistry
In order to study Chemistry at LCS we ask that students possess the ability to work as part of a team and have a high level of commitment to their studies. A sound grasp of mathematics is also essential.
Studying any subject at an advanced level requires students to have an ability to be independent learners and to have the drive to work through problems when encountering concepts and theories that are difficult and/or abstract.
At AS level candidates are given an insight into the foundations of chemistry with atoms, molecules and the Periodic Table are being studied at AS level. A2 level builds on the foundations and introduces kinetics, equilibria and spectroscopic techniques.
Practical assessments play an important role at both AS and A2. Students are continually assessed on their practical ability and as a consequence complete an individual skills assessment at both levels.
