Music

Welcome to Music

Music is part of Littleover School’s Creative Arts Faculty, which is a busy hub at the heart of the cultural life of the school. It has a reputation for high quality music making, concerts / shows and for offering opportunities for hundreds of pupils on a wide variety of instruments or voice. Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a progressive enrichment programme and become actively involved with musical groups including: “Urban Choir”, “Viva” band/orchestra, “Phat Percentage” funk band, “Brass Monkeys” brass group and “Exclusive” function band. There are 11 visiting practitioners who teach a variety of instruments from: Brass, Drums, Piano, Keyboard, Singing, Strings, Guitar and Woodwind.

Music is taught to all students in Years 7, 8 & 9 becoming optional from year 10 upwards.  Our curriculum aims to challenge students of all ability levels, encourage them to participate in and widen their appreciation of music styles and genres, develop their own musical skills and provide a thorough, intellectually rigorous musical education for those wishing to continue their studies through school and beyond.

The department enjoys excellent links with feeder primary schools, with ensembles performing concerts and workshops with KS2 pupils.

Within the department we have two main teaching classrooms fully equipped with keyboards and other audio equipment. Each pupil receives one hour of music at Key Stage
