Rowett Rises As Manager And McClaren Makes Monstrous Moves

By: Megan

As a result of Derby County losing six games in a row, Steve McClaren was sacked again on the 12th of March 2017. However, Derby were already looking at another manager, Gary Rowett, the former Birmingham manager and he was welcomed back into the club, by the chairman Mel Morris, as the new manager on the 13th of March.

The chairman, Mel Morris, said this, “We are delighted to welcome Gary back as our new manager, I have tasked him with full responsibility of the redevelopment program and we hope he does well and we also hope he stays for a long time because I believe he is an amazing manager and he was an amazing player.”

We are delighted to welcome Gary back as our new manager

Gary has a lot of weight on his shoulders because his first game at the club is against Nottingham Forest, Derby’s biggest rivals, and if they lose it would be a very bad start to the club as Derby are fighting to keep the Brian Clough trophy, in memory of Brian Clough. Also Nottingham Forest has a new manager and they need to win the first game. This is a big game for both clubs.

When Gary Rowett found out he was the manager he was very surprised because he was just sacked from his former club, Birmingham City. Gary Rowett said this: “What has gone on previously, is not a concern. I like a challenge. I don’t expect it to be easy! It is important to be patient and wait for the right opportunity which challenged me in a different way. This job will do that. I am excited to start the job. I have had an affinity for this club for a long time, I know how it works.”

Derby are currently 10th in the table and Gary needs to make lots of improvements if even wants to get into the play off spaces.

Steve McClaren was sacked for the second time in two years. He did the same thing two times and they resulted in him being sacked for good. Last season he lost eight games in a row and that resulted him being sacked. But since Derby had no manager they had no choice but to accept McClaren back as the manager. But as he made the same monstrous mistakes once again and this time Mel Morris had enough. He sacked him on the spot and immediately looked at Gary Rowett for the new managerial position.

I interviewed Colin Gibson, head of communication for DCFC. We asked some questions about Gary Rowett. Here are the answers we recived:

He said that Gary’s plans “are to get Derby into the premier league. His goals are to get into the play off places. 6th place is still reachable.”

When asked is Gary is intending to sign any new players he responded with. “This is something for the summer. Some players will stay but some will leave.

When we asked how Gary is building relationships he said this “He is getting to know them (the players) in training and is having individual meetings with the players to get to know them better”
