Mrs Seago with her books!

Littleover Community School, which has been ranked as the best school in Derby and Derbyshire by The Real Schools Guide, is already known for producing many high achieving students, who go on to do well in a huge variety of areas, ranging from medical success to musical success and now to writing success. For example, Mya Fox, is a name that you may recognise, as she appeared on the X Factor in 2017. This time, the spotlight turns to a girl named Francesca Dorricott

Francesca Dorricott, is an author who writes in the genre of Crime and YA, and a previous teacher of hers stated “she was always impressive, and I knew that she would go on to do great things.” This has evidently occurred, as she has ended up releasing a book called: After the Eclipse, which is a crime story about how a girl went missing during the darkness of a solar eclipse. When another girl goes missing before the next big eclipse, a girl called Cassie, who was returned to her home town to care for her grandmother, suspects that the disappearance is all connected to her sister and that who took her is still out there. On Amazon, the book has got only five star reviews, which is a real indication of her success. The words most prominent in these reviews, include: ‘fantastic’, ‘astonishingly good’, ‘accomplished debut’ and ‘kept me gripped right to the end’. What an accomplishment for Dorricott!

Behind the scenes, we had the opportunity to interview one of the inspirations behind the success, Ms Seago herself. She talked to us about her own writing hobby and what she thought about Francesca going into a career in writing. Ms Seago stated to us: “I like to write about things in real life and have always loved making up stories from a very young age, even though I couldn’t necessarily put them down on paper!” This shows that Littleover’s teachers can inspire pupils to achieve their dreams, no matter what! Ms Seago also feels that you don’t always need to stick to the specifics of the subject and should set aside time to focus on what students are good at too. These quotes show that Ms Seago is a great example of an inspirational teacher that students who attend LCS are bombarded with, and are very lucky to be able to be surrounded by. Who knows what success Littleover will produce next!
