“ An experienced skydiver died performing a high-risk manoeuvre”, a coroner has said.

Zoya Ali looks at the circumstances that led to his death.

Aiden Chaffe, father to two young children, died on 22nd of October 2018. He tried to make a high-performance landing known as swooping.

Swooping is a high quality landing in skydiving but it is known to be a very risky move to make. This tragic event occurred in Langar, Nottinghamshire.

He had completed about 1,400 safe skydives without any problems. On this particular skydive the type of jump he had intended to do was risky. Assistant coroner James ruled that his death was an accident. It was a fractional error. He died whilst practicing his skydiving in front of his friend.

It was a brave move but also one that could affect everybody he knew. One of Aiden’s friends was killed in the same way earlier.

Mrs Lalli stated: “Even though he is experienced, I would still stay that to risk your life like this whilst having two young children is selfish and verging on stupid.”

Many people have asked how this tragic event occurred.

Aiden’s wife told the BBC News that her son keeps on saying "If I wish hard enough, will he come back?"

It has been discovered that this was an accident that lead to his death. A GoFundMe page raised more than £19,000 to help Mr Chaffe’s children and partner after his death.
