Welcome to Drama

Drama at LCS has two main functions. Firstly, it is a great opportunity for students to look creatively at the world around them using the forms, structures and styles from the breadth of theatre history. Students look at Mime, Melodrama, Improvisation and scripts, alongside the work of some of the great names in Drama, past and present. This ranges from the works of Shakespeare, Stanislavski and Bertolt Brecht to modern practitioners such as Splendid Production, Theatre de Complicité and Frantic Assembly.

Whilst studying these elements, Drama students will also develop many of the skills necessary to succeed in whichever career path they choose to follow later in life. Team work skills, confidence building, communication skills, problem solving and academic independence are all fundamental elements in the study of Drama from Year 7 to Year 13.

In order to extend students’ knowledge, we also organise regular trips in order to give them as much experience of live theatre as possible.

Drama at LCS is taught in two dedicated Drama rooms, each with theatre lighting and sound equipment in order that students get a full range of experiences both as performers, creative technicians and designers.
