Exam Board and Specification:
We deliver the AQA Religious Studies course (7062/D), which is assessed with two examinations in Year 13.

  • Component 1: Philosophy of religion and ethics.
  • Component 2: Study of religion (Islam) and dialogues.

Lessons are taught by two dedicated, subject specialist teachers.

Study of religion (Islam)

Islam is studied in relation to the following concepts and beliefs:

  • Sources of wisdom.
  • God/gods/ultimate reality.
  • Life after death.
  • Good conduct and key moral principles.
  • Religious Identity.

Year 13

Philosophy of religion

  • Religious language.
  • Miracles.
  • Self and life after death.

Ethics and religion

  • Introduction to meta ethics.
  • Free will and moral responsibility.
  • Conscience.
  • Bentham and Kant.

Study of religion (Islam)

  • Religion, gender and sexuality.
  • Religion and science.
  • Religion and secularisation.
  • Religion and religious pluralism

The dialogue between philosophy of religion, ethics and Islam

  • How Islam is influenced by, and has an influence on philosophy of religion and ethics in relation to the issues studied.


During the course of study, students will develop an in depth appreciation of religions and issues relevant to contemporary life. They will develop key skills in their ability to process information and explain it to show knowledge and understanding as well as an ability to effectively use their knowledge to evaluate and argue contrasting points of view.
