Coral Reef In Danger

Beautiful displays may only be seen in tanks if global warming carries on.

Australia’s Coral reef is being critically damaged due to global warming. The effects of global warming are stronger on sea life, as Earth’s oceans absorb around 93% of the heat. "Climate change is the single greatest threat to the Great Barrier Reef," said co-author Prof Morgan Pratchett, from Queensland's James Cook University.

Experts have tried their best to stop this, but they say it is insufficient. Even if the temperature goes back to normal, the reef would take decades to restore. If the temperature rises, the coral reef will lose all its colour because of a loss of zooxanthella (the chemical that produces colour) and might even wipe out if we don’t reduce global warming. Saving this natural wonder is a top priority, as the reef is a National Heritage Site. The UN says it is the "most biodiverse" of all the World Heritage sites, and of "enormous scientific and intrinsic importance"...
