A Cat-astrophe

By: Scarlett

At 2:30pm on Monday the 13th of March on Walton Road in Burton, a small tortoise-shell cat was found trapped inside a box which was placed inside a tied up carrier bag. The cat was found by a local woman who heard a loud meow which prompted her discovery. After discovering the cat she took her to the nearby RSPCA and left the cat in their care. As a nod to where she was found, the cat has been named Bagpuss.

In a previous interview with Derby Telegraph Inspector Bryant had this to say: “Luckily the cat was unharmed so we presume that she had been there for a short while… It is concerning that whoever abandoned her like this did so with the intention of leaving her there to die, as she was dumped in a quiet place where she could quite possibly be found inside her box.”

“Bagpuss isn’t microchipped so we don’t know where she has come from. There is a possibility she has been stolen so we are very keen to find out if anyone recognises her or knows how she ended up in the situation she was in. It is very sad that she went through what she did, as she is a healthy and very friendly cat.”

Bagpuss has a lot of mystery surrounding her and she has no microchip to show where her home is. If any readers have any possible information please call the RSPCA (0300 123 8018) to leave a message for Inspector Laura Bryant who is investigating Bagpuss’ origins.
