Freak Ferocious fire out on Cotmanhay Road.

By: Evie

The factory has been derelict for the last couple of years. People have broken into it before and last year a kid fell through the roof.

A 27 year old (not named)

Last night in Ilkeston on Cotmanhay road, a massive fire broke out at 9:32pm. When the fire fighters arrived at the scene they discovered a ‘well developed fire’ up on the second floor. The Derbyshire fire service reported that six fire engines were sent to the scene to put out the fire, however, it was too early to decide whether the fire had been started deliberately. It was confirmed later on that no-one had been injured at the time . At 00:35 this morning a 27 year old woman who lives in Cotmanhay Road said that she had been stopped from getting home because the road was blocked off.

She said “We were told we had to go around and enter the road from the other end. I was a little bit worried about my house because I didn't know how much the fire had spread. I could see the smoke and the flames.”

The woman exclaimed that she was shocked when she saw the fire but had also been expecting something like this to happen. She said “the factory has been derelict for the last couple years. People have broken into it before and last year a kid fell through the roof.”

After the blaze was put out fire fighters returned to the scene at 08:49 this morning and the demolition team, who were in the process of destroying the building, have returned to the factory this morning.

The crews are back at the scene to make sure that the fire that took them hours to put out doesn't spark up again. But the roads that were closed last night have been re-opened at 06:32am this morning– being closed for 9 hours.
