Dave Cousins spreading his knowledge

On World Book Day, 2nd March 2017, a group of reporters including Aadil, Sophie and Duncan interviewed Dave Cousins. He was interviewed at Littleover Community School and was asked a variety of questions. Dave Cousins was at Littleover Community School so he could inspire children to be an author or to read more.

During his time at Littleover we interviewed him and asked him a variety of questions. We asked him questions about his career and what he is doing at the moment with it.

The first question we asked was “Are you writing a book at the moment?” He told us that he was and we tried to get the name of the book but he wouldn’t tell us. The reason he wouldn’t tell us what the book was called was because he thought we might think that the title is bad so then we wouldn’t read the book!

The next question was “How many books have you written?” Dave Cousins has written seven published books but has around twelve half-finished books. His books include: Waiting for Gonzo, Fifteen Days Without a Head, the Charlie Merrick’s Misfits series and One Short.

I was encouraged to read books at school and at home.

Another question that was asked was “Who is your favourite author?” He said he likes lots of authors but his favourite is Robert Westall. His favourite book that Robert Westall has written is The Machine Gunners. This is his favourite book because it is about the war and he likes what happens in the story.

We also asked Dave, “What is your favourite book that you have written?” He let us know that he doesn’t have a favourite and he likes all of them for different reasons. Dave likes Waiting for Gonzo because it is about his family and what his family is like.

We asked him “Were you encouraged to read at school?” Dave said he was encouraged to read at school and his parents also encouraged him – that is how he became to like writing stories. He got some ideas from books and he has a big imagination.

The final question we asked was “What inspired you to become an author?” What inspired him to be an author was reading books. He read lots of books because he was encouraged by his school and parents. He started by writing stories for fun and then took the opportunity and decided to become an author.
