“It was the best part of the park and is something we should have treasured and not DEMOLISHED!”

Mrs. Louis

On the 10th of August 2017 vandals caused £20,000 worth of damage to the latest addition to the park- it’s climbing frame. The company are now hunting for an operator, to pay for the repairs and take over the attraction.Security measures have been put in to protect the park from any more vandalism occurring. Police are still investigating the vandalism. This well used attraction originally reopened in the summer for repairs and even before it had been replaced some of the ropes were cut by the vandals.

“It is devastating because it was a way for children to socialize and enjoy themselves and to exercise. Also, it’s sad it’s been vandalized as it’s a nice place to be!”

The police blamed adults for damaging the equipment again by playing on it overnight. A Derby City spokesman stated that “the criminal damage and vandalism that took place was deeply disappointing and additional security measures have been put in place!”He also stated, “Markeaton also continues to be a successful, thriving park that contributes to Derby being a great destination to travel to and an opportunity you shouldn’t miss”.
