A LCS teacher pushes for women power on the Anniversary of the rights of women vote. Miss Came says she wants women to be known for all the positive achievements that have already happened. She said, “I would like to encourage all young people to have high aspirations for what they want to do in the future both girls and boys”

Pupils and staff celebrated International Women’s Day by having displays supported by different staff throughout the school. The various events were organised to raise awareness of women’s successes and achievements in the world. A big thank you to Miss Came for putting the events together, and fantastic support from: Ms Seago, MS Senior, Ms Just, Mr. Day and Ms Bryden.

The events that were held during the week included an assembly on International Women’s Day and successful Women in Society and fun and educational activities such as quizzes and trivia. The whole school joined in with an 'Inspiring Women Week' through tutor time activities, lesson exemplars, library book lists and displays, plus assemblies enabled lots of positive messages to go out to students.

Miss Came said “There was a great buzz around LCS, and lots of students took part by adding their own ideas to the mirror posters that were then part of the display in the library. A fabulous book called the Female Lead was received in school that gave some great ideas on resources and links to key films for students to see”

"Recent research shows that girls and women are particular vulnerable to bias against the female lead at specific crossroads. The first is adolescence, when social pressures from friends, parents, adverts, films, television and magazines to have designer looks, to be liked to be admired, to be a nice girl, put self-confidence at risk" - extract from the introduction from the author of the Female Lead campaign.

Inspirational women such as politicians and artists, journalists and teachers, engineers and campaigners, fire fighters and film stars who have changed the world in a variety of fields come together. Some have led their professions; some have broken new ground for women. All were chosen for their ambitions and achievements and all tell their stories in their own words.

Miss Came, reflecting on the end of the day said “By highlighting achievements of females through projects like the Female Lead and by reinforcing positive messages via the school and through education, we can begin to achieve a more level playing field and challenge times when inequalities are recognized. This week has encouraged all young people, but especially women and girls, to be courageous in challenging inequalities, just like women have done in campaigns like the right to vote and take heart in their own strength of character and resilience.”
