HS2 stands for High speed 2. HS2 is a limited company the HS2project is a planned high speed railway which is being built in the United Kingdom. The HS2 project is an estimated £56 billion. This new railway will connect London, Birmingham, the East Midlands, Leeds, and Manchester. The railway will be built in a Y configuration. Leeds at the top right, Manchester at the top left, Birmingham in the centre and London at the bottom.

Stage one of HS2 has already started and is thought to end in 2026. Phase two will then start and that is expected to then finish in 2032-33. Belfour Betty is a UK contractor that will be involved with Hs2 building northern stretches of the line alongside a French company called Vinci.

It will be great for the UK economy. Even before it open it will help balance out the economy. It will create many jobs many 100,000 of jobs and when it opens the stations will make 100,000 jobs. HS2 will boost the economy by £15 Billion a year.

Lots and lots of people don’t want HS2 to go ahead because the cant be a guarantee on the final bill of the project. Also the railway will run past and above many towns and houses. This will cause a lot of disturbance and also could affect the cost of people’s homes which annoys many people.
