Can cricket rise above football??

			Can cricket rise above football??

In a recent poll it was found that almost half of twelve to thirteen year olds watch international football but only a quarter of them watch international cricket. This may be affected by people watching a small part of a test match and thinking all cricket is as slow as this and not watching it again. Football may be watched because it is faster paced and it is action packed most the time.

After a disappointing 4-0 loss in the ashes series and a terrible T20 tri-series, England finally won a series Down Under this winter. England have been quite hit and miss this winter but they finally triumphed against New Zealand. The England boys with the bat and the ball, won the ODI series against New Zealand 3-2. They won their final ODI in Christchurch, New Zealand with a convincing 7 wicket victory. With Chris Woakes getting player of the series things are looking up for the English international cricket team. Jonny Bairstow scored a fantastic hundred, 104, to help England to victory of the game and the series. While Chris Woakes took 3-32 to keep the bowling line up in order while Ben Stokes, as her normally does, hit some quick runs and did some great bowling.

We asked a class of twenty-eight students what international sports they watch. Twelve of them watched international football, six of them watched international rugby and seven of them watched international cricket. One in four watched international cricket although this is still less than football.

Hopefully these players can inspire children and teens to watch cricket and maybe play it themselves, by winning more series and competitions.
