Space travel is getting more and more advanced as we progress into the future, but is it worth the expense that is put into it?

Missions like NASA’s Opportunity mars rover have been going on for years now each one costing upwards of $1 million. These missions provide scientists with data about the surface and climate of other planets, and the solar system. For example, the data collected from Opportunity provided information to scientists about how it might be possible to start a settlement on Mars. But would the money be better used elsewhere?

Katie (45) said “Space travel is an excellent opportunity, however there are many more issues facing the world today like cancer and poverty. The money shouldn’t all be spent on space travel”. Richard (44) also agreed and said that “There are much more important issues at the current state of the world such as global warming that need more funding.” Anthony (12) also agreed.

However, Janet (71) disagreed stating “It’s definitely worth it because we should know about what’s going on in space and what we might learn from it.” Louis (13) also thought that it was worth it to spend money to find out more about space.

If the money wasn’t spent on space missions, then this money could fund education and water purity projects in less developed countries. This money could also be used to support charities, research cures for diseases and deal with other global issues such as global warming.
