Lent

			Lent

Lent is a special time of prayer, penance, sacrifice and good works in preparation of the celebration of Easter. .People may give up something that they love to show commitment to their religion or to challenge themselves. But should what we give up evolve with the world around us?

The most common thing that are given up are chocolate, alcohol and meat but are there things that we find more valuable?

The world we live in now revolves around social media so why not say goodbye to Snapchat and prove that we don’t need it to survive?

Nia, an eleven year old student, said “I would find it hard as I use it to contact my friends and to keep up with what they have been up to, so I might feel cut off.”

Perhaps the challenge would prove whether we need it or not.Other thing that we might struggle to give up are sweets, fizzy drinks, salt, crisps, Twitter, television and our precious cars.

Lent isn’t just for fun, the reason for giving up our valuable treats is because Christians believe that Jesus went away for 40nights and 40days to resist temptation from the devil.

Lent ends with Holy Week, which leads to Easter Sunday - the most important day in the Christian calendar. This day marks the resurrection of Jesus after his death on the cross, and is a celebration of his life.

Pancake Day symbolises you getting rid of all the bad and unhealthy stuff in your cupboards.
