It has been hard for Derby County and Frank Lampard after losing three in a row in recent weeks. But their slump was finally broken last night when Derby County won against Wigan 2-1. Wigan scored first with Gavin Massey smacking the ball into the back of the net, but then Mason Bennet equalised just after half time, with an emphatic goal practically kicking the ball over his head. From then on it got even better for Derby. In the 78th minute the Rams scored again with Scott Malone, ending their bad spell. The team managed to cling on to an exhausting 96 minutes and secure their much needed victory.

In his post-match interview, Manager Lampard was pleased after that terrible defeat to Aston Villa that his team persevered, despite going one down, and managed to go on and win. He stated that he found the match “exhilarating “and they are level on points with Bristol City, only being in 7th place because of goal difference.

Unfortunately, back in February Derby were knocked out of the FA Cup against Brighton, from the Premier League. It was a 2-1 one win. It was an eye caching game to see but Derby were eventually defeated and so won’t be making it to the Quarter finals. For some it is a positive as it means that Derby can focuses on trying to achieve a play-off position.

Without the distraction of the FA Cup, and since Derby’s next three matches are at home, the future is looking bright for the Rams.
