The new name for Intu Derby has been revealed and not many people are happy about it. Its supposed to signify the motion of the city while also including the name.

On social media citizens of Derby are saying

"What an absolutely ridiculous, awful name"

"It sounds like a hair shampoo against head lice."

But some people have said its refreshing to have a new name and they are looking forwarding to the new change.

Derbion is at the heart of Derby's retail experience and can be a symbol of the drive, determination and resilience of the people of Derby

Derby City Council leader Chris Poulter

Derby City Council leader Chris Poulter said he was "delighted" with the new name.

"Derbion is at the heart of Derby's retail experience and can be a symbol of the drive, determination and resilience of the people of Derby," he said.

"A lot of people will think it's silly when they first hear it... but if it's around long enough, people will come to accept it,"

In the past the centre was called The Eagle Market which many continue to call it today.

Derby City Council has been quick to defend the new name.

John Forkin from Marketing Derby, who was involved in the renaming process, said continuing to call the centre Intu Derby was not an option. "Intu went into administration so all 17 Intu shopping centres are going through changes at the moment. It's a good message of confidence to broader investors."

Derby is the first centre to find a new name so quickly, which the council is saying is a good way to show the pride of Derby and reflect the quick motion of the city, which the name is also supposed to reflect.
