Mr Wilding has sent an update to parents and carers regarding the end of term, the start of the school year, PE colours, bus fares, LCS Social media, safeguarding information and a police & crime commissioner survey.

To all parents/carers

Good afternoon, from LCS.

We are nearly at the end of another very successful year at LCS. Before things get busier over the next few days, I wanted to update all parents/carers with important information about the end of term and start of the new school year, in September.

There are a few items in my update today, but all are a relatively brief read.

End of term and start of new school year

Summer Term ends on Tuesday 23rd July, at the earlier time of 1-40pm, which is the traditional end of term finish time. For students who normally use the School Bus, this will be available and should arrive in school before 2pm. Form Tutors will be sharing arrangements for the last day of term with students during this week.
The start of the new school year for students is Monday 9th September, at the usual start time of 8-40am. All students should go straight to their Form Rooms at the start of the day.

For all term dates for next academic year, 2024/25, including INSET Days, please refer to our school Term Dates.

Change of PE colours

A reminder that school PE colours change in September, with Black shorts/PE trousers replacing the current Blue. These items can be bought from any sports outlet and do not need to carry the school logo. Our current PE top, which should carry the LCS Logo, is not changing.

There are no further changes to our school uniform for September, but I would again respectfully remind parents/carers of the need for students to wear shoes for school, rather than trainers. Any footwear displaying a sports brand logo will be considered unsuitable.

Bus Fare increase

Our School Bus operator, Harpurs, have informed us of changes to fares for their 276 service, from start of the Autumn Term. Fares will rise to a flat rate of £1.50 each way, from the first day of term, on 9th September.

Whilst Harpurs have confirmed that this Bus will continue in September, the future of the service will be kept under review, due to rising costs and falling numbers of students using the Bus. This service is not subsidised, or managed, by DCC or the school.

If we receive further news or developments about the Bus service during next academic year, I will let you know.

We have recently received information from Trent Barton, including ticket details for secondary school students. Click here to view the information.

@LCS X page

Some parents/carers may have noticed that our school X/Twitter page has been discontinued. Since changes have been made to the X platform, the number of 'hits' for our posts on X have declined considerably and we no longer feel this platform is an effective form of communication for us.

We will continue to use our Facebook and Instagram pages for information for parents/carers and students and we will be launching our exciting new school website at the start of next term, which, we hope, will improve our communications with our wider school community.

Charity Week

Our Year 11 students have completed their annual Charity Week for this year, with all proceeds being divided between the National Brain Tumour Charity and Royal Derby Hospital Neonatal Unit.

When we have a total of funds raised, we will communicate this to all parents/carers and students.

This event has been an important part of our ethos at LCS for many years and we thank parents/carers and students for their support.

Safeguarding Information

As we are approaching the end of term, we will be updating students with the usual safeguarding reminders, to help us all keep safe over the summer break.
Important information, including water safety, safety around derelict buildings and Beach safety can be found in the Safeguarding section of our school website.

Details of how to report emergency Safeguarding issues during school closure can also be found in the same section of our website.

We have been asked by Derbyshire County and Derby City Councils, as well as the NHS, to share additional information around drowning and water safety. Please click here to view the information.

Police and Crime Commissioner Survey

Nicolle Ndiweni, the new Police and Crime Commissioner for Derbyshire, has launched her consultation on the new Police and Crime Plan for Derbyshire, giving residents an unprecedented role in the design of plans to build a safer and more inclusive Derbyshire.

Nicolle wants to hear from as many people as possible, from all age groups and backgrounds, to ensure that this survey is as representative as possible.

If you would like to contribute to this survey, please copy the address below into your internet browser

If there are any further important updates required before the end of term next week, I will issue a further update to all parents/carers. If this is my last communication to you this term, however, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of our school, our staff and our students.

I will write to all parents/carers again at the start of the new school year.

Have a great summer.

Keep safe.
