Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of the first term, I am writing to inform you about the wonderful activities which have been taking place at Littleover Community School over the past fortnight and to provide some important information about the beginning of next term.
Firstly, a huge congratulations to the performers in our Winter Showcase; the talent and bravery displayed during this evening was an amazing event to witness. To all of our students that performed, thank you for your efforts. On behalf of the Creative Arts Faculty, I want to thank the parents and visitors who bought tickets and supported the event. Finally, I want to express my gratitude to the staff who were involved in the organisation of the evening; it is a significant responsibility on top of their regular jobs and at a busy time of year, so a big thank you.
Our Year 11 students have undergone their mock examinations, and the majority of students have entered into this period with focus and maturity; their conduct has been really impressive and puts them in a very strong position moving forward. I know from conversations with several of the students that some have now realised that their revision needs to begin earlier and I would really encourage those conversations of reflection to be taking place at home, so parents and carers know how they can support their children further in the final five months of GCSE study.
Many of our Year 7s have been lucky enough to attend the pantomime on Thursday 18th December and this was a great activity to get the children into the festive mood.
On Friday, Years 7-11 will have celebration assemblies which will recognise the efforts and contributions of the students over the term.
In Sixth Form news, our Year 12 Space Design Challenge Team have won the East Midlands round and are now going through to the national final in London in March 2026. A huge thank you to Mr Mottram, who runs this enrichment opportunity.
Additionally, our 6th Formers carried out a successful Christmas Jumper Charity Day, raising money from the community for the Treetops hospice.
A reminder to parents and carers that school will be closing on Friday 19th December 2025 at 13:40pm and reopening on Monday 5th January 2026.
As we enter the festive break, we know that for some students this can be a very difficult time in terms of emotional wellbeing and would direct parents and carers, who may be concerned about their child or another young person, to refer to our Safeguarding and Well-being pages on the school website for further support.
We would also encourage parents and carers to be mindful about the amount of time our students spend on screens or devices over the Christmas break. In an increasingly digital and complex world, we hope that students find a balance between the use of their devices and connecting with family and friends away from screens.
To conclude, a personal thanks to the students, staff and families, who have been supportive of the school during this term - it is greatly appreciated.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Kind regards,
Mrs L Johnson
