Headteacher Update - End of October Half Term

October 22nd, 2025 | 5 minute read

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of the first half term of this academic year, I wanted to update you on recent events at Littleover Community School, relay some important messages and provide notification about upcoming events.

Over the past two weeks, we have hosted two open evenings for prospective Year 7 and Year 12 students for entry in September 2026. Both events were well-attended, and staff were on hand to provide information and advice about life at Littleover Community School. However, a special mention needs to go out to our wonderful student ambassadors; they volunteered in their free time to represent the school and speak to visitors about their experiences at Littleover - they were an absolute credit to the school. I felt exceptionally proud of their contributions to the two events, particularly our two 6th Form students, who spoke during the presentation section of the 6th Form Open evening to nearly six hundred people over the two sessions. Applications for the 6th Form are now open, with the online form available on the 6th Form section of the school website and the closing date is the 5th of December at 4.00pm.

Additionally, the 6th Form enrichment programme is now up and running with all Year 12 students taking part in a range of activities designed to broaden their experience and skills.

Excitingly, we have submitted 30 applications for students under the UCAS early applicant facility; students are applying to Oxford and Cambridge to study Medicine and/or Dentistry, and we wish them the best of luck.

We move on to key messages, so in anticipation of the half term holiday and to ensure there are no unnecessary issues with uniform on return after the break, I have taken an extract from the uniform policy (see below) to provide clarity over the expected standards in this area and to avoid any confusion about make-up, hairstyles, jewellery or shoes for when we return. The information has been reiterated in assemblies about standards with Year 11, Year 10 and Year 8 this week; Year 9 will have an assembly on return. We are seeing far fewer issues of this nature in Year 7, so a huge thank you for supporting the school in this area. This policy has not changed from last academic year. Adherence to the policy on school uniform and presentation is important because it shows students attend Littleover Community School, contributing to a sense of belonging, and it places all students on a level playing field, irrespective of material possessions or access. Please ensure that your child’s uniform and presentation is in line with the school policy for when they return after the holiday.

From the Uniform Policy, page 3

  • Plain black school shoes. Heels must not exceed one inch in height. Boots, plimsolls/ open-toe shoes or trainers are not allowed.

  • The LCS logo on the polo shirt and jumper must be visible at all times in the classroom.

  • Religious symbols such as a small cross or crucifix on a thin chain, or a lightweight Kara are permitted for religious reasons.

  • One wrist band/bracelet only may be worn on each wrist.

  • Rings should not be worn.

  • Extreme hairstyles are not acceptable. This includes the use of bright or unnatural colours, shaved heads, or patterns/lines shaved into hair or eyebrows.

  • Make-up or nail varnish is not allowed.

  • Students who cycle to school must wear an appropriate safety helmet.

  • Headgear worn for religious reasons, or as protection against the sun during hot weather, must be plain colour.

  • Earrings are not allowed, except for one simple, small stud or sleeper per ear.

In regard to 6th Form dress code - students should be wearing leather shoes, the only ‘trainer’ style shoes that are permitted are all white or black leather trainers.

Year 11 students have received their mock timetables, and half term would be an ideal time for parents to sit with their children and draw up balanced and clear revision timetables to support student preparation and to ensure that good habits are in place in the count down to those mock examinations.

A reminder that if you, as a parent or carer, need any support from a safeguarding point of view during the school holidays, information can be found on the school’s website, under the ‘Safeguarding tab’.

Finally, the upcoming events for next half term are detailed below:
  • Students return to school on Monday 3rd November.

  • Year 11 Parents’ Evening is on Thursday 13th November via School Cloud.

  • Year 7 Settling in Evening is on Thursday 20th November.

  • INSET day on Monday 1st December.

  • Year 13 Parents’ Evening is on Thursday 4th December via School Cloud.

  • Year 11 Mock Exams begin on Thursday 4th December for our Art students and on Monday 8th December for all other Year 11 students.

Have a lovely and safe half term.
