Headteacher Update – November 2025

November 28th, 2025 | 4 minute read

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we conclude our fourth week of this half term, I wanted to inform you about the recent events which have taken place within Littleover Community School and provide some key messages, as well as future dates for the diary.

A massive thank you to the parents and carers who attended our Year 7 ‘Settling In’ Evening. It was fantastic to see so many families making appointments and listening to the presentations delivered during the evening. A huge thank you to the Year 7 Pastoral Team for their efforts in providing information for parents and carers and to Mr Buchanan and Mr Pestell for their organisation of the event.

We have also had the privilege of watching our Year 11s complete their mock interviews this week, which has been a nerve-wracking and invaluable experience for them. Most of our students demonstrated excellent preparation and focus and their efforts are to be celebrated. Again, another thanks is needed for Mrs Oversby and Ms Thomas for arranging this opportunity. We could not offer this experience if it was not for the employers who are prepared to offer their time towards this event, and if any parent or carer would like to know how to have their employer/ business represented in this event, as part of community outreach, please contact our Reception Team to register your interest.

Many thanks to those parents and carers who voted in our most recent Parent Governor elections; your continued commitment to the Leadership and Governance of the school is really appreciated.

Our Sixth Form teams have been busy too in raising awareness about the charity collection for ‘Derby Food for Thought’ which starts on December 2nd. Sixth Form students are asked to bring in at least one item from the lists they have received and the food will be delivered in January when stocks are low. In addition, the Sixth Form are gearing up for their Christmas Jumper Day on 16th December, which will raise money for Treetops Hospice.

Finally, our musicians and thespians are hard at work preparing for the Winter Showcase on 3rd December at 6.30pm. Information has been sent out via Parent Pay regarding the ticketing system for this event.

Key Messages

We have been asked to raise awareness regarding the Local PCSOs having observed an increase in the number of vehicles parking on zigzags outside of schools. A reminder that you must not stop, wait, or park on the yellow zig-zag lines by pedestrian crossings or school entrances; the markings are there to keep visibility for children and drivers; failure to do this could lead to a penalty notice charge or penalty points.

A number of students are still coming to school with no coat; as both colder and wetter weather arrives and remains, it is important that students bring a warm coat with a hood.

School will be closed to students on Monday 1st December.

Our Year 11 students begin their mock examinations with Art on 4th and 5th December and then they will have a two-week period of exams starting on Monday 8th December. Students have received their timetables and have been advised to be revising in a focussed and purposeful manner at home in preparation for this period. As parents and carers support their children through this period, please be in touch with Mr Wilson or our Well-being team if you have any concerns about your child during this period.

All year groups will be expected to attend on the final day of the half term. School will be closing at 1.40pm on Friday 19th December. The school bus operator has been informed. Students will be reminded that they should not linger on school site or in the community on the final day of school; wherever this message could be reiterated at home, it would be greatly appreciated.
