As students across Derbyshire focus on their GCSEs, new government data released this month offers a welcome reminder of the positive strides made by young people across the region. We’re pleased to share that Littleover Community School has been recognised as the highest-ranking secondary school in Derby for student progress, according to the Department for Education’s latest Progress 8 scores.

Progress 8 is a national measure used to track student development from the end of primary school (Key Stage 2) to the end of GCSEs (Key Stage 4). It’s designed to reflect how much progress students make compared to others with similar starting points. Based on 2024 exam results, LCS achieved a Progress 8 score of +0.46, classified as ‘well above average’ and the highest among all Derby city schools listed in the report.

The data, recently featured in the Derby Telegraph, places LCS ahead of other local schools. While league tables never tell the whole story, this result reflects the steady, consistent efforts of students, staff and families working together in challenging and changing times.

At Littleover, our focus has always been on more than exam results. We believe in supporting students to become thoughtful, capable, and resilient young people. We know that every learner is different, and this recognition speaks to the strength of our inclusive approach and the everyday commitment shown across our school community.

The past few years have brought unique challenges to education, and we’re proud of how our students have responded, with maturity, independence, and care for one another. Our staff, too, continue to go above and beyond to ensure learning remains purposeful and engaging, rooted in strong relationships and a supportive culture.

We talk often about Learning, Caring, Succeeding -The LCS Way - and we see that ethos in action every day. Whether it’s academic progress, kindness to others, leadership in extracurricular activities, or quiet personal growth, our students continue to do us proud.

We’re grateful to every member of our school community for their contribution to this achievement, and we’ll continue working hard to ensure LCS remains a place where all young people can thrive, now and into the future.
