Mr Wilding has sent an update to parents and carers regarding the upcoming INSET day, a change to PE Kit colours in September, Sixth Form success and local community events.
To all parents/carers
Greetings, from LCS.
I hope you all enjoyed your recent holiday. We have had another excellent start to the new term and I have a few items and updates for you today.
INSET Day
A reminder that school is closed to students on Monday 22nd April, for staff INSET. This will be the final INSET Day of this academic year.
Term Dates for 2024/25 have now been updated on our website, to include all our INSET Days. This information can be viewed School > Important Dates > Term Dates.
PE Colours
LCS will be making a slight change to our PE kit colours, from September 2024. The predominant colour for student PE kit will continue to be Red, which will continue to be the colour for PE tops and socks, which are not changing, but we are changing the colour of student shorts/PE trousers from Blue to Black. This change is to bring our PE kit in line with the main colours of our School logo and is also as a result of feedback from our School Council.
Students' PE shorts/PE trousers do not need to carry the school logo and can, therefore, be purchased from a variety of different outlets, at a relatively low cost. As many families will purchase new PE kit ahead of the new school year, I am informing all parents/carers of this change now, to allow enough time for you to purchase PE shorts/PE trousers in the new colour, of Black.
This change does not come in to place until the start of the new Academic Year in September and all our new families of Year 7 students joining the school in the Autumn Term will also be informed.
Sixth Form success
We have recently received new data showing LCS Sixth Form in the Top 2 centres locally for average best 3 A Levels in 2023. This is a significantly achievement for the centre, as the number of students studying A Levels at LCS Sixth Form is more than most other centres, other than Derby College.
Our Destinations data showing % of students progressing to Higher Education or Training is also extremely positive, with 92% of LCS Sixth Form students making this progression, compared to the Local Authority average of 66% and national figure of 68%.
All students who applied for places in LCS Sixth Form for September 2024 have now been contacted and Induction Days will take place in June, for those students holding conditional offers. These students will be informed of arrangements for their Induction Days in due course.
Local Community Events and support
Family Hub
I have attached to this update information from Family Hub Derby, with details of family events in the local area from April to July.
Our Local Police team have asked also me to share the following information with all parents/carers:
Boxing
Normanton SNT would like to remind you that there is a FREE weekly Boxing Session at Colombo House, Colombo Street every Monday 17:00-18:00. This is hosted by Ovill McKenzie and is for anyone aged 9-16.
Cuppa With A Copper
Also, 12:00-13:00 on the 17th, we will be at New Life Church on Normanton Road for Cuppa With A Copper. This coincides with their free lunch and warm space. So please pop by for a chat and a warm meal.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school, our staff and our students.
Keep safe.

Following nominations, the recent White Ribbon campaign to raise awareness of violence perpetrated against young women and girls has won an award.
The campaign, ran by a team including Derby Youth Mayor and LCS 6th Form Student Munti Muntasir, has been a big success. Munti would like to share the following update:
Hello everyone,
I hope you are well.
You may remember that our city's White Ribbon Campaign led by young people, for young people was nominated for the National Crimebeats Awards 2024.
I'm delighted to announce that after a very successful day in London, we not only managed to come 3rd in the competition (winning £1000) but also won the High Sheriff's Association Award.
We were then treated to an open-top bus tour of the major sites in London and to see the sites from above on the London Eye.
This campaign has been a shining example of our youth's potential to be nationally recognised for our efforts in organising a campaign from scratch in a challenging 2 months.
Thank you to all who were involved, from wearing the white ribbon to being a part of the competition!
Thanks,
Munti
Congratulations to everyone involved!
