Headteacher Update- September 19th 2025

September 19th, 2025 | 3 minute read

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to provide a brief update on how the current term is progressing at Littleover Community School. As of 18th September, 26,566 positive points had been awarded to our students in Years 7-11; this is a fantastic achievement and reflects the effort that we have seen from the majority of our students since returning from the summer holidays.

I would also like to extend my thanks to those parents and carers who have adjusted their pickup arrangements at the end of the school day to ensure that the traffic near the entrance of the school is more sensibly distributed and therefore a safer environment for our students.

Students will be reminded about their conduct on their way to and from school, particularly in relation to showing respect to the properties they pass on their routes; it would be helpful to have the support of parents in repeating this message.

Overall, the standard of uniform has been better this week, and we appreciate parental support with this area of school life. A reminder that nose piercings and multiple ear piercings are not permitted and staff will be challenging students on this.

Next week, we have several exciting events and opportunities for our students.

It is ‘Languages Week’ and students will have the opportunity to be involved in KS3 bingo, language taster sessions, a German extravaganza, Spanish dance and a languages quiz. The Languages team are putting on these events throughout the week and we would encourage students to get involved.

Additionally, we have KS3 Reading week. Students should bring a book to read for specific parts of lessons; it can be a fiction or non-fiction book but should not be their planner or a revision guide. This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the importance and joy of reading and staff are really looking forward to having conversations about the books brought in by students for the reading week.

Year 11 parents and carers have been invited to the Post 16 Information Evening at the school on Thursday 25th September at 6.30 pm. On the evening, we will outline the options available post-16 and the support that students will receive in school. Parents will also be able to attend up to two workshops for more detailed information on two of the following: a) Sixth Forms b) Apprenticeships c) Further Education Colleges. These workshops will be led by external speakers, or staff experienced in these areas. Each workshop will run twice, at 7.05pm and 7.35pm. To confirm attendance, parents should use the booking link on the communication sent by Mr A Goodhead earlier in the week.

Finally, we will be hosting the Year 11 City Netball Tournament on Tuesday 23rd September, and we wish our netballers the best of luck within the competition.

Kind Regards,

Mrs L Johnson
