It has been just over a week since increased penalties for drivers caught using mobile phones behind the wheel came into action. However motorists have already been caught breaking the rules.

As far as we know, 8 motorist have been snared during Derbyshire police operations for using their phones while driving during the first 3 days of the new and harsher punishment for the offence. As a result, the eight drivers they caught using a phone were issued with the new penalty of a £200 fine and having their licences endorsed with six penalty points.
