Littleover Community School

Values and Ethos

LCS Landscape

It will always be our aim at Littleover to care for all our students as individuals. We also wish to provide each of them with an enjoyable and varied learning experience and help them to fulfil their potential.  We are proud to be a community comprehensive school, serving all the young people of the area, regardless of background or abilities.

At Littleover, learning always comes first.  Our core purpose is educational and we are committed to a broad, deep and balanced curriculum which meets the needs of all our students.  We also care for our students and each other, providing support during difficult times and enjoying the experience of working together towards common goals.  We keep each other safe and healthy.

We have made a strong commitment to safeguarding children and young people and to the principles of equal opportunities, in order to protect all our students and staff from unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation. We recognise the importance of providing an environment within school that will help children feel safe and respected with a clear understanding of their needs and views.  We will help students develop the resilience needed to enable them to manage the challenges they may face, not only in school but also in the wider world.

We believe that our students should play an active role in school life and our School Council is there to ensure all students have a voice in how the school is managed.  Members of the LCS School Council have also become members of the Youth parliament, as well as two students from our School Council being elected as Youth Mayor for the City of Derby.

We have symbolised our values and ethos in the creation of the ‘LCS Way’ and in our ‘School Aims’.

Conduct at LCS - "The LCS Way"

LCS puts great emphasis into ensuring that students show respect, courtesy and compassion to others.

We encourage students to follow "The LCS Way" - a set of guidelines on how LCS students are expected to behave. You can download a copy of the "LCS Way" poster, which can be found displayed around the school, below.

More specific information about behaviour in school can be found in the Behaviour Policy under School > Policies page.
